Verrett was on the road to recovery in 2022. He was practicing with the 49ers and seemed close to making his debut in 2022. Unfortunately for Verrett, that won't happen.
On Thursday, the 49ers announced that Verrett tore his Achilles tendon on Wednesday.
Injuries have dominated Verrett's career since he was selected in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the then-San Diego Chargers.
Verrett has adapted in just 40 games. He missed the entirety of the 2018 season after tearing an Achilles tendon.
He played in a single game for the 49ers in both 2019 and 2021 and suited up six times for the Chargers as a rookie in 2014 and four times in 2016.
Verrett only reached double digits in games played twice, playing in 14 games for the Chargers. Chargers in 2015 and 13 for the 49ers in 2020.
Time will tell if Verrett can bounce back from this latest setback. He will be 32 years old when the 2023 season begins
